Terroir Focused Wines
Situated next to the beautiful Dordogne River, our organic vineyard thrives in the deep clay soil with rich minerals from silt. Combining significant diurnal temperature changes with careful hand harvesting at the peak of maturity, we achieve vibrant and balanced acidity that lifts our wines.
Our Wines
At Château D'Esther, we make expressive, vibrant wines that harness the flavour of the seasons.
We aim to create a modern Bordeaux style with spontaneous fermentation and no additives from the finest organic grapes to give you a true sense taste of our terroir.
Minimal Intervention Winemaking
At harvest time we work from before sunrise to hand pick the perfectly ripe fruit in small baskets to protect the quality of the grapes.
Then begins the process of inspection and quality control, ensuring only the best makes it.
We de-stem and lightly crush the berries to allow some juice to collect and start the spontaneous fermentation process.
Picking and fermenting in many small vessels to preserve their specific terroir and give us more options for blending.
Tasting regularly we decide on the specific style for that wine and begin its path to maturation.
We use a mixture of new and neutral 500 litre oak barrels as well as stainless steel tanks to achieve the final result.

Fruit Trees
There are well over 200 fruit trees planted between the vines and all around the vineyard. Everything from Blackberries to Apricots and Peaches thrive during the summertime.
They not only provide delicious food but also habitats and micro-ecosystems.

Permaculture Cover Crops
We carefully select a wide variety of cover crops that help fix nutrients, build soil biomass, provide habitats for insects and protect our vines.

Wild Herb Infusions
We take every opportunity we can to reduce the amount of inputs we need to introduce to the vines.
One way we help to ensure this is by making wild organic biodynamic herbal infusions that are sprayed onto the vines.

Bird Boxes
Throughout the year at Château D'Esther you hear the sound of birdsong everywhere. We have put up 250 bird boxes all over the property.
They help us with pest control and by adding a little natural fertiliser!
